My wife and I recently went to Freeport, Bahamas for a week. Prior to leaving we checked out the status of topfreedom there and found that most sources indicated that topfreedom was not allowed there. However, in the book about the area which the hotel puts out, it was indicated that, while nudity is forbidden in the Bahamas, some women choose to go topfree and the practice is accepted. When we were there however, there were not many other tourists and none of the women went topfree.
One of my friends, Silke, and I visited the Dominican
Republic in August. The weather was great -- fortunately no hurricanes! -- and it wasn't very crowded. We stayed on Bavaro Beach for
about 3 days and spent most of our time on the beach. I had given her a couple of Wicked Weasel bikinis for the trip and even though she was at first a little bit shy wearing the skimpy suits, she did get some nice reactions from both men and women at our resort and was a little more comfortable. It wasn't long before she was down to wearing only the bottom, which is little more than a G-string. About 2/3 of the women were topless, of all sizes
and ages. The crowd was predominantly European (many Germans there).
No one even batted an eyelid at all the
women who were enjoying top free sunning.
I visited St. Barts in March 2006. In talking with others it seemed clear the topfree is common and accepted on all beaches. At Flamands about 25% of the women were topfree. Columbier requires quite a hike and has a small beach which may have many sailboats moored in the bay. We seldom saw topfree on the beach though it was common on the boats. However, it was clearly acceptable. Even though the percent of women going topfree was not real high when we visited St. Barts, we really liked the casual live and let live attitude and absence of gawkers.
I've been to St. Martin a couple times sailing and spent several days in the vicinity of Orient Beach in the company of a woman who enjoyed topfree. Here's what we experienced in March 2006:
Orient Bay: In front of Club Orient, most visitors seemd to be couples staying at Club O. Most were completely nude with maybe 10% of the women only topless and maybe 5% wearing more. ( I hear there are more fully attired people when the cruise ship crowds arrive) North of Club Orient, maybe 30% of the women were topfree.
Isle Pinel or Pine Island: About 20% of women topfree.
Tintimarre: Accessible only by boat, topfree was clearly practiced and acceptable, but varied quite a bit depending on who was present. Much less crowded than Isle Pinel. Some full nudity.
Green island; A small island with a very small beach in Orient Bay. You must rent or hire a boat to drop y Read More>>
